Week 11 - Paintings

Firstly, I filled in all the skin colour with hard brushes then blended it afterward with soft brushes.

Keep adding  and blending colours for few hours.
This is the original/final  painting in Photoshop.
Then i added some filters on in order to stand out the light and to darken the shadow.
The body shape is now more refined.

Some more attempts.

Week 10 - Research into Camera Shooting Skills

MASTER SHOTS: 100 ADVANCED
CAMERA TECHNIQUES by
CHRISTOPHER KENWORTHY

This is a very useful book which focuses on the techniques to achieve a high quality of composition. It contain texts and photos to help reader to comprehend/ understand the shots.

Because my animation is an action genre which will involve quite a lot of fight scenes. In the book, there is a specific section for the use of camera for fighting scenes, for example, my animation will have a Speed Punch scene, and the 2nd picture on the right ( scanned from the book) illustrate how a speed punch should be shown in order to straighten it's power and speed. Another example, one of my character will be knocked down, therefore, i created this thumbnail sketches referring the techniques suggested from the book.

Furthermore, i would like to draw viewers attention on the animation so having some
shots such as Dramatic Shift and Directing Attention is needed. I have also try to apply Travel with Subject technique to only focus on my main character during the fight.

Although my film is not live action but i think the skills and techniques are usable for animation as well.

Week 9 - Research into Composition

This a book teaches a range of framing techniques which aids telling story. For example, Rule of Third, Classic Balanced Composition and Depth of Field. I did not read the entire book ( But i highly recommend to read it all )  just only selected the composting section to collect ideas and refresh my mind when i am struggling where to place my character.

Week 8 - Bradford Animation Festival

This was my first time to attend an animation festival an i can say that it was awesome. It broadened my horizon because i  watched animation shorts made by students from different  countries as well as some valuable making of Paramorman and Caroline.
Some of the animated shorts gave me ideas and inspiration me. For example '' CARN'' has the graphical effect that i wanted to achieve. Clean, contrasted, moody, and all the objects are simplified into form/ geometry/ polygons.
I have a thought that my characters do not have to have really smooth outlines, instead of it, i will create something more geometrical in order to simplify human's form.

Week 5 - Equipment Research

There are so many things needed to be considered in a professional boxing game such as rules and equipment. A convincible animation should have included these details. Here is research on equipment that boxers are required to wear before the fight.

Gloves - All boxers are required to put gloves on in order to protect their hands and wrists. There is a range of gloves provided to boxers but it depends on which class they are in. For my character he is in lighter weight classes so ten-ounce gloves are needed to be worn.

Mouthpiece - A plastic protection for boxer's mouth and teeth.

Protective cups - A necessary protection to be worn at all levels to shield the groin area.

Loose-fitting trunks and soft-soled shoes - Required to be worn.
